Upon the release of Talk That Talk, “Birthday Cake” debuted on several world charts. The song entered the South Korea Gaon International Chart at number 67 on November 26, 2011, with sales of 6,661 digital downloads. In the United Kingdom, “Birthday Cake” debuted at number 172 on December 3, 2011. Rihanna performed the song for the first time on May 5, 2012, on Saturday Night Live, as part of a medley with “Talk That Talk”.
